Welcome!
Dear Friends,
We are pleased to invite you to the web-site Община/Community.

This is your site! Don’t be surprised by this statement. We created it for you and other folks in the Russian-speaking community with the goal of providing you with a new and hopefully useful Internet tool.

The Russian community in Massachusetts has grown tremendously in the last decade and is now estimated to be over 100,000 strong. In addition to our numerical strength, we have made great strides in contributing to the economic, cultural, medical, scientific, and political life of the Commonwealth. Ours is a truly diverse and vibrant community, blessed with people who came to US from all parts of the former Soviet Union. We are a diverse community but not a divided one. It doesn’t matter what part of former USSR you came from – we are one people. We are all immigrants who became New Americans; we share the same history, the same language, the same culture, and the same hopes - to really make it in this new world and to give our children the best possible future…

Our people have done more than just succeeded professionally. Over the years the Russian community became more mature and self aware and now blossoms with a variety of community groups and organizations. Some of them are small, some much larger, but they are all full of talented people who volunteer their time and work very hard for their favorite causes. So, it’s no wonder that now these groups seek to reach even larger audiences and bring their work to the attention of the Russian and American public. That is how the idea of the "Russian community web-site" came to life. Being the most technologically advanced community definitely works in our favor. Even many elderly Russians have learned how to use emails and surf the Web. So, when earlier this year several community groups got together to address the issue of building a community-wide informational resource, the solution was found relatively easy. The idea was to create a Russian community web-site with an attached electronic newsletter that would be sent out to those interested, once every two weeks. Every community group or organization will be able to post their information about their respective events and activities, write articles and opinions, refer others to interesting publications and useful resources, and do many other wonderful things without hassle and free of charge!

We plan to update this site on a weekly basis and send a new electronic newsletter to our subscribers every two weeks. Please look for updates to our site at: www.bostonru.com and send your information, questions, ideas, comments, articles, etc. to our email: bostonru@comcast.net.

Also, we would like to thank our sponsors without whose support this new initiative would have never been possible:

Russian Community Association of Massachusetts
Combined Jewish Philanthropies
Russian Jewish Community School
Multicultural Home Care

Special thanks to Yury Khovov for the development of this web-site.
